Llanelli Fire Station Open Day Success!

Last Saturday (September 8) saw Llanelli Fire Station hold their Open Day which proved a tremendous success. Even a little rain didn’t dampen the spirits at the start of the day. Approximately 400 people braved the wet morning to visit the station and enjoy the event.

By 11am the weather had improved, with families travelling from far and wide to support Llanelli’s local fire station and the chosen charities. All proceeds made on the day went towards The Firefighters Charity and The RNLI Lifeboat Station, Burry Port. Llanelli Town Mayor Cllr David Darkin plus dignitaries also paid a visit, getting fully involved.

Morning entertainment included visits from PS Parties characters Belle and Elsa, who paired up to provide the children’s entertainment with Crazy Clayton. The afternoon entertainment consisted of live music from the band Silver. There were live chip pan safety demonstrations as well as road traffic collision demonstrations. Everyone was eager to watch and see the invaluable job of our firefighters and first responders of course!

A wide variety of games was on offer for the children throughout the day’s duration, including soak the firefighter which went down an absolute treat with all age groups! Local craft stall holders attended the day with their handmade crafts and the Welsh Air Ambulance brought along their play helicopter whilst Dyfed Powys Police displayed their traffic cars, dog handlers and armed response units along with the local neighbourhood policing team based in Llanelli.

Many agencies merged to make the day a success. Geraint The Snakeman proved a hit and The West Wales Chronicle got up close and personal with some of the reptiles. Both the burger and cake stalls sold out by the end of the day as visitors took full advantage of the refreshments on offer.

Firefighter Jess Smith, co-organiser of the event said:

“We were extremely excited to hold this year’s Open Day and were very pleased to see so many people turn out to support their Llanelli Fire Station and have such an enjoyable day, despite the weather not being completely on our side.

“We would like to say a big thank you to the main sponsors of the day who were BRISCO Williams Gas World, Owens Road Transport, Parker Plant Hire, CK’s Food Store, Tesco, ASDA, Llanelli Trailer Company and Llanelli Community Council for their continued support to Llanelli Fire Station.”

The next Llanelli Fire Station Open Day will be held in 2020. Follow Llanelli Fire Station on Facebook and Twitter for further information about events, to request your FREE Home Fire Safety Check and to be kept up to date with local incidents that Llanelli Fire Station respond to and attend.
