Detectives investigating a scam where fraudsters purport to be police officers have made an arrest.

A 30-year-old Cardiff man has today been arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to defraud.

The arrest was in connection with a series of scams committed in the Vale of Glamorgan area.

He is currently in police custody.

Officers carried out an early morning raid of a house in Adamsdown, Cardiff, where a quantity of cash was found.

Detective Inspector Terry Hopkins, of Barry CID, said: “This arrest is as a result of an ongoing investigation into fraudsters purporting to be fake police officers to con mainly elderly victims into handing over their money.

“A team of detectives have been investigating these type of scams as part of Operation Signature.

“Police officers will never call you asking for money. If you or your loved ones receive calls of this nature then please hang up and report it to us on 101 or 999 in an emergency.”
