Nominations are now open for the annual Carmarthenshire Adult Learner and Tutor Awards run by the Carmarthenshire Learning Festival. Nominations are welcome for any adult learner or tutor learning or teaching within the county.

Nominations are sought for learners who have overcome significant barriers to learning, who have used learning to transform their lives or who inspire others to take up learning opportunities.

Tutor nominations are welcome for those that go the extra mile for their learners, who use innovative techniques, who create exciting learning environments or who promote life long learning. The organisers are keen to see nominations for tutors that make an impact on the lives of learners and inspire learners to carry on learning in all areas of their lives.

We are keen to recognise the achievements of outstanding learners and tutors. Each nominee receives a certificate of recognition. Shortlisted nominations will be invited to the awards ceremony held within the county in June.

“So many adults improve their lives and communities through education and learning that it’s really important that we celebrate and honour those learners who have overcome significant obstacles and barriers,” said Rebecca Rosenthal, Co-ordinator of the Carmarthenshire Learning Festival Group.

“And similarly there are many tutors of adults who really go the extra mile to make sure that their learners realise their potential and make the most of their learning experience. Every year it’s incredibly rewarding to hear the stories of tutors who have changed their learners’ lives and of learners who end up being real role models for others.”

The Carmarthenshire Learning Festival Group is made up of individuals, state funded organisations, private businesses, third-sector organisations and social enterprises that are passionate about adult education and its impact on people and local communities. Supported by the National Institute of Adult Continuing Education (NIACE), it facilitates the development of celebrations of learning with the aim of promoting educational opportunities and developing the capacity and skills of members of socially and economically excluded communities.

To receive a copy of the nomination forms, please e-mail CarmsLearningFestival@live.co.uk or phone 07703 631859.

The deadline for nominations is 24th May 2013.
