GMB MEMBERS BACK WELSH GOVERNMENT’S PAY OFFER

After a ballot of members in the working in the Welsh NHS GMB’s HAS accepted the Welsh Government’s pay offer for 2018-2020

GMB, the union for Health Professionals, has voted overwhelmingly to back the Welsh Government’s pay offer, with 73% of members accepting the proposals.

NHS Wales Trade Union officials met yesterday to discuss the results of each of their internal balloting of members, all of which showed a resounding consensus to accept the Welsh Governments proposals.

In a unanimous decision, all unions have now accepted the pay rise on offer and staff can expect a new level of pay from October.

The deal also promotes a new way of working within the Welsh NHS, which sees a new emphasis on sickness and absence management being centred on staff well-being and welfare.

Paul Gage GMB Wales and South West lead organiser for Health said:

“We’re pleased that the Health Minister Vaughan Gething and his colleagues have listened to our concerns, and that there will be major reforms within the service with Staff Welfare at their very heart.

“This deal is about more than money, it’s about ensuring that NHS staff welfare is at the forefront of the service’s priorities.

“Deal’s like today’s underline just how important Trade Union membership is and how we help deliver a fair deal in social partnership with the Welsh Government.”
