Mid & West Wales Fire and Rescue Service is again urging caution in the kitchen after Llanelli fire crews were called to a property in Cefncaeau on the evening of Friday 31st May.
On arrival, the property was smoke logged after bread had become stuck inside a toaster. Seven people in total – two adults and five children self-evacuated the property prior to the arrival of fire crews. However, all occupants suffered slight smoke inhalation and had to be treated at the scene with oxygen therapy by paramedics.
Watch Manager Marc Gower who attended the incident said:
“Thankfully on this occasion nobody needed to go to hospital. The property had one working smoke alarm which was located on a different floor to the origin of the incident. It did alert occupants, but had there been an alarm on the floor of origin, evacuation would have been quicker and it would have been less likely that the occupants would have required treatment for smoke inhalation”.
Fire crews ventilated the property using a positive pressure ventilation fan. The Service carried out a Home Fire Safety Check and Hot strike to neighbouring properties after the incident.
