Health bosses at Hywel Dda Health Board have admitted to Plaid Cymru Llanelli they are unsure how services will improve following health reconfiguration in the area.
A freedom of information request by Plaid Cymru reveals the board could not state what they thought would improve following reconfiguration.
Plaid Cymru AM Simon Thomas said: “There does seem a lack of clarity from the health board about the improvements that will be available to the people of Llanelli following reconfiguration.
“When Plaid Cymru was in power and we had a Plaid Llanelli AM speaking for the area, over £15m was invested in Prince Philip Hospital. I saw some of the improvements due to our investment like the services for breast cancer when I visited the hospital recently.
“We kept our word to the people of Llanelli and Wales when we said we would support district general hospitals. We did so in government and we will do the same again now.”
Plaid Cymru Llanelli Constituency Secretary, Rhydwyn Ifan, one of the petitioners to the National Assembly Petitions Committee to retain services at Prince Philip Hospital added:
“The petition led to the meeting with the then Health Minister. We made the views of the 9,000 people who signed the petition to safeguard hospital services in Llanelli perfectly clear.
“The people of Llanelli need a consultant lead Accident and Emergency Service in Prince Philip Hospital.’
