Burry Port Christmas Parade

The Burry Port Christmas Parade is on 3 December starting with a fantastic fireworks display at 6pm opposite Plas-y-Mor complex. After this the parade, lead by the Corps of Drums, will start from Plas-y-Mor working its way towards the Memorial Gardens where the lights will be switched on If everyone can congregate around the station bridge area they will all see the display. Carols will be sung by the children with the Salvation Army. Santa will then arrive and enter his Grotto in the Memorial Hall, Parc-y-Minos Street where there will be more activities including a bouncy castle and many stalls. Entry to the Memorial Hall will be £1 adults and children free.

 

Lifeboat Service

On Sunday 28 November at 4pm the Annual Lifeboat Service with blessing of the new lifeboat will take place in the RNLI Boathouse on the Harbour. A warm welcome is extended to all to join the parish and lifeboat community for this annual service.

 

W.I. Christmas Concert

This is on Friday 3 December in Pontberem Memorial Hall at 7.30pm.Performances are by Burry Port Male choir, the Three Tenors, Helen Gibbon, the W.I.choir with Lynn Richards as compere. Ticket price £5 from W.I. members or call 01267 235972 Wed & Fri 10am-2pm or on door on night.

Coffee Bingo Evening

We are holding a Coffee evening for the Troops Fund on Monday 6 December at the Royal British Legion club, Burry Port. Doors open at 7pm.Last bingo books at 8.20pm.Entrance 40p to include coffee and biscuits and maybe a mince pie. This is our last one for this year so please come along and support us there will be a fab raffle as well. All funds go to filling our comfort parcels for our brave men and women in Afghanistan. Everyone welcome.

 

Christmas Community Concert

This is organized by Burry Port Male choir on Friday 10 December at 7pm in the Memorial Hall, Parc y Minos Street, Burry Port. The choir to host and perform with the help of local school children including Pembrey CP school, Burry Port Junior and Glan-y-Mor Comprehensive. Also performing are Elizabeth Bevan, Burry Port Opera Chorus and a section of Burry Port Town Band. Compere is Rev Eric Davies. Entrance strictly by £3 programme. These available from choristers, the schools, 01554 834371 or at box office on the night. Proceeds to a local charity.

 

Nordic Walking Taster

On Wednesday 8 December at 2pm at Sandy Water Park there is a taster session for anyone interested in Nordic Walking.This is funded by Age UK, formerly Age Concern Cymru and Help the Aged for people over 50.This type of exercise is suitable for people of all fitness levels. After checking with your doctor it may be suitable for people with a range of health conditions. Nordic Walking is Europe’s fastest growing form of physical activity using a pair of lightweight poles. These provide support while increasing the effectiveness of the exercise. It should use 90% of your muscles and burn 20% more calories than ordinary walking at the same speed. Once trained there are various walks taking place on different week days and starting points in this area. Burry Port Senior Citizen’s Club

Will hold their Christmas dinner on Tuesday 7 December in the Ashburnham Hotel. The bus leaves Pwll at 6.15pm with the usual pickup points. The Christmas tea and raffle is on Wednesday 15 December at 2.15pm.Many thanks to all who gave gifts for our raffle. The club will reopen on Tuesday 11 January 2011 at 6.30pm.
