In all honesty, I’ve never really been a big fan of Rowan Atkinson. Pretty much everything he does is the same old thing over and over again. The only thing I have ever enjoyed watching Rowan Atkinson in is Black Adder. It was hysterically quick whited and there was something fresh per episode in each series from every character.

In Johnny English Strikes Again you get none of that. It was incredibly predictable and it was the same ridiculous drab that we got in the first two films with Ben Miller as Bough being the psychic who looks up to him for some reason. There is nothing new to the character what so ever and I regret that there is now 88 minutes of my life I will never get back. It’s a good thing I’m with Odeon Limitless as it’s really not worth buying the ticket!

As I mentioned before, this film is incredibly predictable. Right off the bat, you could tell who the villain was going to be. It’s like they bypassed the misdirection entirely and just went right for the spoiler. I imagine that Jake Lacy who you may remember in the movie Rampage may have felt that they could’ve played around with his character a little more. I mean to say he could’ve seemed to be a good guy to throw us off and completely surprised us with his real intentions near the end… even halfway through would’ve done!

I feel especially bad for Emma Thompson who I admire deeply as an actress. Yes, she plays the Prime Minister which is something you don’t see very often in a film but by the end they made it seem as though she was arrogantly stupid. But it actually got a lot more laughs from her than I did from Atkinson.

And lastly, we come down to Olga Kurylenko who you may remember in Quantum of Solace. You could tell straight away that she was an undercover agent and didn’t get any surprises from her either! It seemed all she was there for was just to be shown as the pretty spy who gets together with the idiot hero. How very disappointing!

So to sum up, we have a painfully predictable script with a formula that’s been used twice over and a lot of really great actors who could’ve been given so much more to do. I give Johnny English a 2/10 and I highly advise you refrain from going to see it unless you want to waste your time… It’s no wonder I was the only one in the theatre!
