Free parking for historic ceremony

THE fun, pomp and ceremony starts in Carmarthen on Saturday June 29nd) to herald Carmarthenshire’s 2014 National Eisteddfod.

Thousands are expected for the Eisteddfod’s colourful and historic Proclamation ceremony and procession through Carmarthen and children’s activities in the town.

In support Carmarthenshire council have arranged for the park and ride service between Nantyci and the Town Centre to be free throughout the day to all users. There will also be free parking at the County Hall and Spillman Street car parks.

County Leader Cllr Kevin Madge said: “Hosting the Eisteddfod next year is a great honour for this county especially for it to be returning to majestic Festival Fields site on Llanelli Millennium Coastal Park so soon with it having been there as recently as the year 2000.

“The free park and ride and car parking for the proclamation ceremony is the council’s way of contribution to the start of the build up for the historic Eisteddfod.”

The entertainment at Guildhall Square will start am 11am with local primary schools, Dawnswyr Talog and the well known S4C children’s character Cyw all performing during the day from 11am – 1pm.

The procession will start from St Peter’s car park at 2pm travelling through King Street to the Guildhall and up Lammas Street to Carmarthen Park for the enthronement of the Arch Druid.

In the castle forecourt local organisations, Carmarthenshire council and Welsh Football Association will have a feast of activities for people to enjoy from hand painting, football and cookery.
