COUNCILLORS have been to see for themselves exactly what happens to our rubbish when it is recycled.
A visit was arranged for local members to see the Materials Recycling Facility in Johnstown, Carmarthen, where our blue bags are taken.
Once the contents are sorted, they are then sent on to be processed and turned into something new.
The facility is run by CWM Environmental.
More than half of all our waste in Carmarthenshire is currently recycled and the amount of rubbish going to landfill is also decreasing year on year.
Executive Board Member for Technical Services Cllr Colin Evans said: “The council is looking to increase its recycling rate by 2% every year for the next five years and is hoping to achieve a 70% recycling rate by 2025. This is no easy feat and to succeed we must all do our bit and recycle as much as possible.”
