Sshh! People urged to respect their neighbours during summer weather

THE Carmarthenshire Community Safety Partnership is asking people and businesses to think about their neighbours when making the most of the sunshine and enjoying their gardens and other open spaces.

The partnership is keen to make people more aware of how unwanted noise, smells from BBQs’ and people smoking outdoors might affect those living around them, and to consider those who want to enjoy a little peace and quiet.

Every summer, the council and police – both CSP partners – experience an increase in complaints from outdoor parties or people acting irresponsibly after a few drinks.

Executive Board Member of the Community Safety Partnership, Cllr Pam Palmer, said: “Whilst we don’t want to spoil anyone’s fun, we are just asking for people to be considerate to neighbours and communities – especially as people often sleep with their windows ajar at night during the warmest weather.

“Unwanted noise, cooking odours and cigarette smoke can be a nuisance and really disturb people who are having difficulty in coping with the warm weather.

“And sometimes a neighbour making a simple request for quiet can escalate in to an anti-social behaviour incident.

“We want to avoid any incidences by just making a simple, polite request, for people to be good neighbours and to think about others in their locality.”
