YOUNG people across Carmarthenshire are being urged to have their say on youth club provision in the county.
The survey is being carried out as part of a task and finish review of youth club provision, set up by the county council’s Education and Children Scrutiny Committee.
It aims to review current county council youth club provision, taking into account the needs of young people, usage, sustainability, value for money, Welsh medium provision, the role of the voluntary sector, links with town and community councils and the potential for commissioning of these services.
In June, various voluntary organisations gave presentations on their youth club provision to the task and finish group. The group is now consulting with young people, voluntary groups, other councillors and staff to find out more about their experiences.
Deadline for the survey is Friday, September 7, following which the information will be collated and will inform the group’s report.
Chair Cllr Eirwyn Williams said: “The current provision of county council youth clubs has developed over an 18 year period following the creation of Carmarthenshire County Council in 1996.
“While these youth clubs met the local needs of young people when they were created, there is now a need to plan this provision more strategically.
“Given changing Welsh Government priorities for youth service provision and on-going financial pressures on the local education authority budget, a review of the current delivery of youth clubs is needed to develop a service that is sustainable and responsive to the current needs of Carmarthenshire young people.
“We would like as many people as possible to have their say to help inform this work. All the information gathered will remain confidential and will be used to help shape provision in the future.”
People and organisations are also asked to promote the survey and share the links via Twitter, Facebook, the web, emails and any other methods. Hard paper copies are also available.
