Llanelli MP and AM celebrate Small Business Saturday

Nia Griffith MP and Lee Waters AM joined Llanelli’s mayor and councillors in the town centre on Small Business Saturday (1^st December) to encourage residents to shop local.

Small Business Saturday takes place on the first Saturday of every December and aims to support small businesses in the local community in the busy run-up to Christmas. 

Nia Griffith MP said: “I was delighted to support Small Business Saturday again this year and visit so many of the fantastic shops we have here in Llanelli.

“I started my Christmas shopping with a dragon mat from the carpet shop and a cake from Jenkins bakery. I also got some lovely gift ideas at Cadno Gifts in Burry Port, and some doggy treats at Doggy Desserts in Hedley Terrace.”

“Small businesses help to keep our town vibrant and unique, so it is vital that we celebrate the contribution they make to our community and make the most of them.”

“It definitely is a case of use it or lose it, so let’s make sure we support the local assets we do have, from the traditional market to new businesses in the Stepney Arcade.”

Lee Waters AM added: “It’s really important to support our local businesses – It’s been shown that a pound spent with a locally owned firm does much more good in the local economy than a pound spent with a large firm. We can all do more to support small business, that’s why I thought it was important to support Small Business Saturday.”

“It’s also why I’ve consistently called on the Welsh Government to do more to support small business in Wales, by refocusing our attention on the local firms who support our everyday quality of life.”

“Welsh Government support like help with business rates can help small business thrive, but we need to continue to work with small business to understand what they need from their elected representatives.”

“Let’s celebrate the amazing businesses we have here in Llanelli and help them grow.”
