A level students have great success at Coleg Sir Gâr

Students at Coleg Sir Gâr are once again celebrating on receiving their A-level results.

The percentage of A* – E grades was once again high at 97%, with 21 out of 29 subjects recording a 100% pass rate, with 18% of learners attaining an A* or A grade.

Students on the A level Academic, Cultural, Excellence (ACE) programme achieved outstanding results with 93% of grades being either an A* or A level in range of subjects across the provision.

Head of A-levels and Access, Mrs Vanessa Cashmore, stated:

‘We are delighted at the success of our students and this reflects the hard work and effort of students and staff over the last two years of study at the college. On behalf of all staff at the college we wish our learners every success as they go to the very best universities across the United Kingdom and into employment.’

Lucrezia Baldo looks certain to take up her place at Cambridge to study Modern Foreign Language at Clare College after achieving an A* in History and three A grades in French, English Literature and Mathematics.

Kiera Soanes, a former St John Lloyd student achieved A grades in Mathematics, Chemistry and History and is now going to study Medicine at Exeter University.

Former ‘Only Boys Aloud’ member and Coedcae student Matthew Jennings produced outstanding results with A*s in Mathematics and Further Mathematics and A grades in Chemistry and Physics. Matthew is now going to Imperial College in London to study Physics at Degree level.

Previously home tutored Timothy Davidson also achieved A*s in Mathematics and Further Mathematics and A grades in Chemistry and Physics. Timothy is now going to study Aeronautical Engineering at Imperial College in London.

Mr Barry Liles, Principal and Chief Executive stated:

‘It is great to see our students performing consistently well. Performance in Further Mathematics, in particular, stands out with 40% of students achieving the exceptional A* grade.’

‘It was also very pleasing to see learners continuing to achieve A grades in Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry at the College in line with developments in STEM education at Coleg Sir Gar.’

‘The Welsh Baccalaureate qualification also continues to be a great success at the college and I am delighted that so many A-level students achieved the Advanced Diploma. This excellent performance reflects the progression of students from the strong foundations laid in partner schools in Carmarthenshire and beyond. On behalf of the college, I wish them the very best for the future.’
