As Parc y Scarlets prepares for the opening game of the season against Exeter Chiefs this Saturday (kick-off 3pm), the Scarlets unveiled their new playing kit for 2013-14 this evening.
Scarlets players Rob McCusker and Rob Evans led the fashion show in the new home and away kits which continues to link to the club’s values and rich heritage.
The home shirt proudly retains its deep Scarlet red with touches of white whilst the away kit alludes to the Scarlets’ great heritage and respects the region’s 140 years of rugby returning to a dark blue – the first ever colour worn by the club.
Both home and away shirts incorporate elements of the wings of the dragon whilst the players’ shirt has a raised rubber gel gripper print that represents the dragon’s scales and offers additional grip when the ball is cushioned to the body.
Scarlets Head Coach Simon Easterby understands the importance of wearing the latest clothing technology whilst retaining and reflecting the club’s heritage in its design and colour. He said: “Everyone to a man is proud to pull on the Scarlets jersey and it’s important to us as coaches and players that the shirt represents who we are as well as being the very best in terms of its durability.
“As a player I was very aware that we were just custodians of the shirt that we wore – we didn’t own them.
“We wore them just to continue the tradition and we were not to disappoint those who had worn the shirts before us. This is something that the current crop of players fully understands and appreciates.”
South African born second row Joe Snyman went on to say: “Whether you play one game for the Scarlets or 300 you’ll always be remembered as a Scarlets. It’s more than a game, it’s the community, it’s the jersey it’s the badge that you play for.
“Hundreds have pulled on the jersey before you and there will be hundreds after you – it’s about leaving your little part in that long line. Every player wants to do that as best as possible.”

The new Scarlets home and away shirts will be available to purchase from 9am tomorrow, Wednesday 14th August.
