Hundreds of gifts, donated by generous St David’s Cardiff shoppers, were provided to Home Start in Monmouth this week as part of the centre’s annual Toy Appeal.

Over 100 gifts, including toys from stores including Hamleys, Lego and Disney, were delivered by a team of Christmas helpers to spread festive cheer to children and families across South Wales.

Running until 23 December, the Toy Appeal is supporting more than 20 incredible charities across South Wales, and thousands of gifts have been donated so far.

Monmouth-based Home Start offers support to local families and parents who are in in situations as diverse as isolation, bereavement, multiple births, illness, disability or who are just finding parenting a struggle. They provide non-judgemental practical and emotional support and help build the family’s confidence and ability to cope.

Charlotte Cook, Scheme Manager at Home-Start Monmouthshire, said: “We are delighted to have received toys from the Toy Appeal again this year. Although Monmouthshire is seen as an affluent county we work with a great deal of families who struggle financially, and the pressure of Christmas can be a huge struggle.  So from all of us here at Home-Start Monmouthshire, thank you, to all who donated this year and to the continued donations, and to all who made this year’s toy appeal happen!!! We are truly grateful”

Steven Madeley, General Manager for St David’s, added: “We’re thrilled to be supporting Home Start to help bring some Christmas magic to the children and families they support for another year running.”

“We were overwhelmed by the generosity of our shoppers last year, so this year we not only wanted to achieve an ambitious goal of 10,000 toys in 23 days, but also increase the number of local charities we support! We really hope that everyone comes out in force to help us make a positive difference to children across South Wales this year.”
