The Kilkenny Cat was packed out on Friday 16th August for The Ecko’s final gig before brothers and band members Lee and Nick Shears move on to pastures new in far off lands.

Support was provided by Llanelli Music Scene’s Band of the Month for August Stand Up and Shout who put on yet another great solid rock n roll set consisting of some original tracks including those off their new EP Origins and some cover songs . Stand Up and Shout were joined at the end of their set by Lee Shears of The Ecko and they performed a perfectly played cover version of the Stevie Wonder song ‘Superstitious’ to end the set on a high ready for The Ecko’s final performance .

The Ecko put on a superb show which demonstrated their experience and the quality of their musicianship via the original and cover songs that they played. Their set kicked off with a polished version of the song ‘Gimme Some Loving’ by the Spencer Davies Group . Throughout their set The Ecko continued in the same vein including some covers and some fabulously well played ‘The Ecko’ original tunes including Deep End; On the Run; See Where I’m Going Too; Early in the morning; Catch me if You Can; Writing on the Wall; Flicker and Planets.

Kudos to bass player Matthew who played two sets, one with Stand Up and Shout and then with The Ecko, lucky guy got to play not one, but two great sets!

Excellent night with two of the best local bands highlighting just what musical talent Llanelli has to offer. The Ecko will be missed on the Local Music Scene but with a bit of luck and fingers crossed we can look forward to a reunion gig one day in the future and the Kilkenny Cat will be right here waiting to host the reunion party.
