Music Scene’s August Band of the Month Event took place on Bank holiday Saturday 24th August and the Kilkenny Cat was packed out and rocked to its foundations by two local rock cover bands .

Llanelli Music Scene and the Kilkenny Cat had the pleasure of introducing new rock cover band Zoltan who played their first ever gig on the night.

This five piece band that includes renowned wheelchair athlete Richie Powell and guitar virtuoso Wayne Calford impressed immediately with their tight rock tunes, powerful vocals and epic guitar solos putting on a flawless performance that you would not expect of a band playing their first ever gig. Cover songs included Gimme All Your Lovin by ZZ Top; Rebel Yell by Billy Idol; Smoke on the Water by Deep Purple; Rock n Roll by Led Zepplin; Whole Lotta Rosie by ACDC and Breaking the Law by Judas Priest to name but a few. Every song was played and sung to a high standard .

Zoltan

To finish their set Zoltan played and excellent version of The Trooper by Iron Maiden with vocals to challenge Bruce Dickinson and impressive guitar solos shared between Guitarists Richie and Wayne. The band Finished off with an epic cover of Metallica’s Enter Sandman.

Superhans

Cat regulars Superhans had a tough act to follow and as usual the trio put on a professional and  brilliant well played show starting their set with Summer of 69 by Bryn Adams, followed by Local Boy in the photograph by the Stereophonics and then Basket Case by Greenday. During the set   Superhans drummer Mat Scarll  left his drum kit to take lead vocals on a cover of the ZZ Top song Gimme Some Lovin and he was joined for part of the song by Zoltan vocalist Leighton Jones and they performed a rocking cover of the song.

Superhans meets Zoltan

For the rest of Superhans set Mat returned to his drum kit and continued sharing backing vocals with guitarist Colin, whilst lead singer and bass guitarist Phil continued to lead the band through covers including an upbeat version of All the Small Things by Blink 182;  Rebel Yell and White Wedding by Billy Idol, Song 2 by Blur and I Predict a Riot by the Kaiser Chiefs to name but a few songs . Superhans finished up their set with an anthemic version of Monster by the Automatic

Great night with a great atmosphere and a great crowd of people.
