Llanelli Brain Surgery

Throughout England there are many accommodations especially designed for rehabilitation of people who are suffering from brain injury; which are part of The Brain Injury Rehabilitation Trust, and now there is one coming to Wales, the first in its kind in the country.

The location of this residential centre will be at the Llanelli Waterside development.

This residential centre will help patients recover skills that they have lost due to brain injury; whether that is from an accident, stroke, illness or assault.

It will be big enough to accommodate up to 24 adult patients and will open in the spring of 2014. Accommodation within the centre will have en-suite bedrooms, along with flats on site for patients who are getting closer to recovering to a state where they can live independently, and for patients who can live semi-independently but still need continuing support and immediate help from the centre’s staff, there will be flats within a bungalow for long-term use.

The centre will provide around 50 full-time jobs, such as management and clinical staff, care, support, kitchen and domestic teams. According to the director of the Brain Injury Rehabilitation Trust, Susan Munroe; they have already started recruiting from some of the senior posts that are required for the centre.

The Economy Minister Edwina Hart said that the centre would “not only provide a highly specialised and valuable resource to help and support people with brain injuries but will also create a significant number of jobs that will provide a range of new employment opportunities”.
