Keep Wales Tidy are organising events and are looking for volunteers, details below:
- 2nd – Working party: Pontyberem – https://maps.google.co.uk/maps?q=51.778634,-4.169827&hl=en&num=1&t=h&z=17 (Rear of main car park). (10am β 1pm). Work can include litter picking, flytip clearance, footpath maintenance and / or community garden works. Tools and equipment will be available but if possible please bring gloves.
- 4th – Ground works: Capel Libanus, nr. Llansadwrn – https://maps.google.co.uk/maps?q=51.969997,-3.91993&hl=en&num=1&t=m&z=16 (9.30am β 2.30pm). Work will include strimming, tree pruning, and general tidying up of graveyard. Some tools and equipment will be available, but if possible please bring bow saw, spades, shovels, rakes, hoes, forks, loppers, shears, strimmer* (50:1 two stroke petrol will be available for use), broom, secateurs, gloves. This event is unsuitable for young children.
- 5th – Work day: Llannon Allotments – https://maps.google.co.uk/maps?q=51.759234,-4.113307&hl=en&num=1&t=h&z=16 (Field next to school). (9.30am β 2.30pm). LCAG will be holding a volunteering day to focus on vegetation management, setting out new plots and anything else that may arise. Tools and equipment will be available. This event is unsuitable for young children.
- 8th β Hedgerow litter pick: Llanddeusant Youth Hostel – https://maps.google.co.uk/maps?q=51.905824,-3.78022&hl=en&num=1&t=m&z=16 (Front of hostel). (1pm β 2.30pm). Under the banner of Keep Wales Tidy’s Long Forest project, a litter pick will be held to focus on hedgerows. Tools and equipment will be available, but if possible please bring gloves as these are in limited supply.
- 9th β River clean: Garnant – https://maps.google.co.uk/maps?q=51.804382,-3.906412&hl=en&num=1&t=h&z=16 (Meet in the bowls club car park). (10am β 1pm). Some tools and equipment will be available but please bring gloves and / or waders if you have them.
- 10th β Waste & tyre amnesty: Llandovery – https://maps.google.co.uk/maps?q=51.992802,-3.797021&hl=en&num=1&t=h&z=17 (Main car park). (8am β 1pm). Most household waste can be taken along including unwanted furniture, carpets and mattresses, electrical items such as fridge-freezers and televisions, garden waste and tyres (maximum 10 tyres per household). However, paint, garden chemicals, car batteries, gas bottles, asbestos, construction and trade waste will not be accepted.
- 18th β Clearance work: Llwynhendy Allotments – https://maps.google.co.uk/maps?q=51.682721,-4.118382&hl=en&num=1&t=h&z=17 (Land off Dwyfor). (9.30am β 2.30pm). We will be helping to clear disused plots so that new plot holders can come in next year. Some tools and equipment will be available, but if possible please bring gloves, strimmer* (50:1 two stroke petrol will be available for use), shears, rake, spade, fork, shovel.
- 19th β Waste & tyre amnesty β Newcastle Emlyn – https://maps.google.co.uk/maps?q=52.038488,-4.47018&hl=en&num=1&t=h&z=17 (Main car park). (8am β 1pm). Most household waste can be taken along including unwanted furniture, carpets and mattresses, electrical items such as fridge-freezers and televisions, garden waste and tyres (maximum 10 tyres per household). - 20th – Big beach clean: Cefn Sidan – https://maps.google.co.uk/maps?q=51.67668,-4.313335&hl=en&num=1&t=h&z=15 (Car park 2, Pembrey Country Park). (10am β 2.30pm). This event is expected to be very busy, so we suggest attendees arrive by 9.45am so that a 10am start can be achieved. Please inform staff on the gate that you are there for the beach clean and they should allow you in without charge. Tools and equipment will be available, but if possible please bring gloves. Equipment will be issued on a first come, first served basis.
- 23rd β Cleanup: Dafen Pond – https://maps.google.co.uk/maps?q=51.691434,-4.129604&hl=en&num=1&t=h&z=17 (Car park off Dafen Road). (9am β 12pm). Tools and equipment will be available, but if possible please bring gloves as these are in short supply.
PLEASE NOTE THAT THE MEETING POINTS ARE WHERE THE ARROW IS POINTING, NOT POINT A.
All (unless otherwise stated) are welcome to join the above events. You are welcome to stay for the duration or any time you can give will be greatly received. For all day events (those that continue after 1pm), please bring lunch as we donβt provide this, and the work locations are often not near food outlets / shops.
If you arrive after the designated start time, please ring 07824 504805 when you arrive in case we have moved on to a different part of the site, or come and look for us.
End times are just a guide and events / work days may end earlier if the job is finished.
Children under 16 should be accompanied by an adult.
You are covered under Keep Wales Tidyβs insurance while at these events.
Please dress sensibly to suit the weather conditions on the day. Suitable footwear should also be worn (not sandals / flip flops, formal shoes); safety boots are ideal, but anything fairly rugged will be acceptable.
