Welsh volunteers raise over £1K for Tsunami Survivors  

A group of volunteers from Cardiff have raised an impressive £1486.00 for the survivors of the September Indonesia Tsunami which killed over 2,000 people.  

Over thirty volunteers – including students, refugees, pensioners, asylum seekers and workers – headed out in force to raise funds for the Disasters Emergency Committee’s Indonesia Tsunami Appeal outside of the Principality Stadium ahead of the Wales V Tonga game back in November.  

Following the powerful earthquake and terrifying tsunami that devastated the Indonesian island of Sulawesi on the 28th of September, the Disasters Emergency Committee launched an appeal to help the 200,000 survivors who needed urgent humanitarian assistance. To date, the total raised across the UK is an amazing £25 million, with Wales contributing £755,838.  

Funds from the appeal are providing shelter, clean water, and helping survivors of the earthquake and tsunami in Sulawesi to rebuild their lives.

 Rachel Cable, Chair of DEC Cymru said:

We also want to thank the Welsh Rugby Union for giving us the opportunity to do so, and of course the generous Welsh public. This money will make such a difference for those families who lost everything in the tsunami.”
