Neighbourhood policing officers in Burry Port have been hard at work hunting those responsible for a series of criminal damages caused in and around the town in recent weeks.

Of the 21 offences committed during August, 16 have so far been detected and the remainder continue to be investigated.

Twelve offences of damage were caused to motor vehicles in Ponthenri. These were detected and a local 16 year old youth was given an youth caution.

Two offences of damage to a vehicle were also detected in Bridge Street Car Park in Kidwelly and a 17 year old local youth was cautioned.

There has also been one other offence in Dandorlan Road and the 24 year old suspect was dealt with by an adult caution.

“The Ponthenri incidents were detected as a result of excellent work by Burry Port officers working with colleagues from Llanell, in particular Sergeant Neil Jones and his team,” said Sergeant Stuart Bell. “And in Kidwelly those two offences were detected thanks to the inquiries of the local officers, PC Garry Cutler.

“In both cases members of the public have come forward and reported seeing suspicious behaviour to police.

“These cases go to show the importance of information being fed in to us by local residents and I would encourage people to always get in touch with us if they suspect something suspicious is happening.”
