While the world waits  for the eventual release of the Final Fantasy VII remake with bated breath, Square Enix seems intent on trying to keep us busy and dying of boredom, so it was to the delight of many when Nintendo Switch & Xbox One ports of fan-favorite titles VII, IX, X, X2 and XII were announced at last year’s E3. All of these games have received remasters with a couple of gameplay additions in recent years, and it is these updated versions which will be coming over to the Switch and Xbox.

.While we have yet to hear any news on the release date of VII and IX, today it was announced that Final Fantasy X is to be released on April 16th, while Fantasy XII is scheduled for release on the 30th of the same month.

Not yet, Cloud. Not yet.

For anyone who has yet to play any of the series’ many titles, any one of the upcoming releases could be a good place to start as they are each standalone stories that feature little continuity between them, so there is no risk on getting lost if you haven’t played the previous entries.

Final Fantasy X is especially notable for being the game of the series to feature voice acting, paving the way for future titles. Also featured is the somewhat divisive sequel, FFX-2.

To commemorate the upcoming release, series illustrator Akihiro Yoshida created this breathtaking piece featuring some of the cast of XII.
