A spate of shed break-ins across certain areas in Llanelli has led to a general warning going out to homeowners to look at how secure their sheds are.

In recent weeks, there have been several shed break-ins, particularly in Llwynhendy and Felinfoel.

“Thieves are not just targeting the sheds which have been left insecure but also those which are locked and made of lighter weight wood ,which tend to be easier to break in to,” said Detective Sergeant Antony Panter. “When you think about the amount of valuable items we store in our sheds, these are rich pickings for the determined thief.

“Recently we’ve seen items such as bicycles and power tools including drills, pressure washers and strimmers being taken. And some of these items are worth a great deal of money and are costly to replace.

“So we’re asking homeowners to do their part in keeping their belongings safe and also to help us catch those who are responsible for these thefts.

“The first thing you can think about doing is making sure your locks and hinges are substantial and of good quality. Next think about installing some motion sensitive lights around your shed and placing noisy gravel around your shed which will make a noise once someone approaches it.

“Take photographs of the items you have stored in the shed and mark them with a UV property marker.

“And remember to call us immediately on 101 if you see anything suspicious. By working together we can stop these criminals and catch them.”
