Officers are reminded the public to always phone the police if they come across any munitions of ordnance and not to attempt to move items on their own.
The warning following the recent discovery of an unexploded shell which had been left on the steps of a building in Burry Port.
“It appears that a well-meaning member of the public left a shrapnel shell on the door step of the Coastguard Station,” said Sergeant Ian Francis. “It may have been a well meant gesture, but moving the shell was a dangerous thing to do.
“And placing it where they did led to the nearby RNLI station being in the cordon area and coming off line. Fortunately due to advice from the EOD they could still operate if needed.
“The advice to members of the public who find such ordnance is to leave it where they find it, make a note of where it is and call us straight away.”
