Keep Wales Tidy/Tidy Towns Events in October 2013

Keep Wales Tidy are organising events and are looking for volunteers, details below:

  • 30th (Sept), 2nd & 4th – Skip / bring & take days: Penyfan (Penyfan Park, Martin Road & Shop respectively). (10am – 2pm). We will be holding skip days with PLTRA to give residents of Penyfan an opportunity to get rid of their household waste. Once the skips are full we will not accept any more waste. We cannot accept the following:- tyres, batteries, asbestos, plasterboard, paint, gas bottles, chemicals and trade / construction waste. There will also be an opportunity for people to swap unwanted items with ones previously left by others (bring & take).
  • 8th – Working party: Pontyberem – https://maps.google.co.uk/maps?q=51.778634,-4.169827&hl=en&num=1&t=h&z=17 (Rear of main car park). (10am – 1pm). Work can include litter picking, flytip clearance, footpath maintenance and / or community garden works. Tools and equipment will be available but if possible please bring gloves.
  • 10th – Waste & tyre amnesty: Llandyfaelog – https://maps.google.co.uk/maps?q=51.781937,-4.296918&ll=51.781953,-4.296695&spn=0.003604,0.010568&num=1&t=h&gl=uk&z=17 (Hall car park). (8am – 1pm). Most household waste can be taken along including unwanted furniture, carpets and mattresses, electrical items such as fridge-freezers and televisions, garden waste and tyres (maximum 10 tyres per household). However, paint, garden chemicals, car batteries, gas bottles, asbestos, construction and trade waste will not be accepted.
  • 13th – Working party: Troserch Woods – https://maps.google.co.uk/maps?q=51.718056,-4.106011&hl=en&num=1&t=h&z=16 (Car park next to Graig Fach). (9.30am onwards). Troserch Woods Society will be holding a working party to cut some silver birch coppices. The coppices will be used as supports for native hedge planting as part of KWT’s Long Forest project (see website for more details). Funds raised from the sale of the coppices will be used by TWS to maintain the footpaths in the woods. Some tools and equipment will be available, but if possible please bring loppers, bowsaw and gloves. Sturdy footwear must be worn. Meet in the car park next to Graig Fach cottage. ALL WELCOME (but young children must be under close supervision by an adult).
  • 14th – River cleanup: Glanamman – https://maps.google.co.uk/maps?q=51.806983,-3.924608&hl=en&num=1&t=m&z=16 (Entrance to Ger Yr Afon). (10am – 1pm). Some tools and equipment will be available, but if possible please bring gloves and waders / wellingtons.

Most household waste can be taken along including unwanted furniture, carpets and mattresses, electrical items such as fridge-freezers and televisions, garden waste and tyres (maximum 10 tyres per household). However, paint, garden chemicals, car batteries, gas bottles, asbestos, construction and trade waste will not be accepted. KWT OFFICER WILL NOT BE IN ATTENDANCE.
  • 18th – Cleanup: Swiss Valley Reservoir – https://maps.google.co.uk/maps?q=51.71668,-4.150525&hl=en&num=1&t=h&z=17 (Bottom car park). (10am – 1pm). Tools and equipment will be available, but if possible please bring gloves.
  • 21st, 22nd & 23rd – Vegetation management: Morfa Berwig – https://maps.google.co.uk/maps?q=51.669894,-4.107728&hl=en&num=1&t=m&z=16 (End of Berwick Road). (9.30am – 2.30pm). Llanelli Water Vole Action Group will be cutting back overgrown hedges and grass along the footpaths. Some tools and equipment will be available, but if possible please bring gloves, bow saw, spades, shovels, rakes, hoes, forks, loppers, shears, strimmer* (50:1 two stroke petrol will be available for use). This event is unsuitable for young children.
  • 28th – Cleanup: Garnant – https://maps.google.co.uk/maps?q=51.807076,-3.905677&num=1&t=h&gl=uk&z=18 (Garnant family centre). We will be undertaking a cleanup along the riverside walk in Garnant. Meet at the Garnant Family Centre. Tools and equipment will be provided but if possible please bring gloves as these are in short supply.

Most household waste can be taken along including unwanted furniture, carpets and mattresses, electrical items such as fridge-freezers and televisions, garden waste and tyres (maximum 10 tyres per household). However, paint, garden chemicals, car batteries, gas bottles, asbestos, construction and trade waste will not be accepted.
  • 31st – Hedge laying: Llannon allotments – https://maps.google.co.uk/maps?q=51.759234,-4.113307&hl=en&num=1&t=h&z=16 (Field next to school). (9.30am – 2.30pm). We will be doing some hedge laying with the Llannon Community Allotment Group. Some tools and equipment will be available but if possible please bring gloves (thorn proof is ideal), bill hook, loppers, bow saw, chainsaw** (50:1 two stroke petrol will be available for use). THIS EVENT IS UNSUITABLE FOR YOUNG CHILDREN.

PLEASE NOTE THAT THE MEETING POINTS ARE WHERE THE ARROW IS POINTING, NOT POINT A.

All (unless otherwise stated) are welcome to join the above events. You are welcome to stay for the duration or any time you can give will be greatly received. For all day events (those that continue after 1pm), please bring lunch as we don’t provide this, and the work locations are often not near food outlets / shops.

If you arrive after the designated start time, please ring 07824 504805 when you arrive in case we have moved on to a different part of the site, or come and look for us.

End times are just a guide and events / work days may end earlier if the job is finished.

Children under 16 should be accompanied by an adult.

You are covered under Keep Wales Tidy’s insurance while at these events.

Please dress sensibly to suit the weather conditions on the day. Suitable footwear should also be worn (not sandals / flip flops, formal shoes); safety boots are ideal, but anything fairly rugged will be acceptable.
