AM WELCOMES EU AND WELSH GOVERNMENT FUNDING IN SUPPORT OF WOMEN AFFECTED BY DOMESTIC ABUSE & SEXUAL VIOLENCE
Local Assembly Member Lee Waters has welcomed £1.5m of EU and Welsh Government funding to support women affected by domestic abuse and sexual violence. The programme will be delivered by Llanelli based charity Threshold DAS.
The Limitless Programme which will roll out across Wales, is a recognition of the significant impact that Llanelli’s Women’s Aid has had on tackling domestic violence in the area. The renamed charity, now known as Threshold DAS will be delivering the new programme right across Wales.
As well as their increased reach, they are also expanding their scope to provide services to victims and perpetrators of domestic abuse. This will help tackle both the impact and the causes of domestic abuse and ensure that more people are able to live without fear of domestic violence.
The programme, receiving £1.2m of EU funding, and a further £300,000 of Welsh Government funding will help women build a brighter future. It will provide tailored support, from confidence building to helping them gain formal and accredited qualifications, developed with the Welsh Government’s Violence Against Women, Domestic Abuse and Sexual Violence team.
Following a visit to Threshold DAS, Lee Waters said:
“The funding secured by Threshold DAS is a testament to the hard work done by Victoria [Pedicini – Chief Executive of Threshold], the staff, and trustees of Threshold. Their innovative approaches to tackling domestic violence have been remarkably successful and I’m pleased their approach is being rolled out across Wales.
“The Welsh Labour Government is committed to tackling domestic violence and this new funding demonstrates that, and endorses the pioneering approach that Threshold have taken.
“We need to work together to ensure that everyone in Wales is able to live without the fear of domestic abuse and meet their full potential. I’m proud that we can support these services, and that Threshold will be able to help even more people in the future.”
*Help and support on issues relating to domestic abuse and sexual violence is available through the Live Fear Free Helpline, which is open 24 hours for free advice and support on 0808 8010 800. The service is open to everyone.
