Lanterns to light up Dragon Parade’s ten year anniversary
Oriel y Parc Gallery and Visitor Centre will hold a Dragon Parade with a difference on Saturday the 2nd of March to mark St David’s Day and the event’s ten year anniversary.
The parade, which will be held at 5.30pm, will see local school children and community groups carry nature-inspired lantern sculptures through the streets of Britain’s smallest city, led by a dazzling dragon lantern.
Oriel y Parc’s Administration, Retail & Events Co-ordinator, Katie Murphy said: “The Dragon Parade has been extremely well supported by the local community over the past decade and we felt the ten year anniversary was a great time to do something a bit different.
“Groups are invited to create their own locally inspired lantern for the parade and free support is available from artist Elly Morgan with workshops available at Oriel y Parc or at your chosen school/venue.
“Gwiber the giant adder sculpture, created for the Adders are Amazing project, will also be coming out of hibernation to join the dragons for the parade.”
Free drop-in sessions will also be held at Oriel y Parc between 2pm-4pm on Monday the 25th of February and Thursday the 28th of February to enable local people to create a lantern so they can also join in with the festivities.
If you, your business, group or school would like to get involved please call Oriel y Parc on 01437 720392 or email info@orielyparc.co.uk to register your interest in the workshops and parade event.
