Winter Weather Information

Rain spreading south this afternoon, possibly heavy, but  turning to sleet or snow from around 3-4pm before clearing south by 6-7pm. Skies will then become clear and (Road Surface Temperatures) RSTs will fall very quickly below zero leading to widespread ice. It may then turn dry for a few hours but snow showers are likely to develop from around 2100 and these will continue through the night with brisk north to north-westerly winds. Some of these snow showers will be heavy, especially during the early hours. Snow showers will continue through tomorrow morning and RSTs will struggle to get back above zero in places.

 

A very cold and wintry outlook with RSTs falling below zero every night. Brisk north-westerly winds are likely to bring further snow showers tomorrow afternoon although these should become increasingly well-scattered into the evening. Some heavy and persistent snow is then expected to move in from the west after midnight. The snow is likely to continue until mid-morning on Saturday with significant accumulations likely, after which time there will be scattered snow showers again. Mainly dry overnight but very cold and icy. Sunday through to Monday morning looks largely dry with light winds but very cold. Possible further heavy snow later on Monday/Monday night.

Roads

Drivers are being urged to take extra care, particularly on untreated roads.
Primary routes will be given priority.
