Last year, members of the public helped the council collect over 2500 gifts for the Annual Christmas Toybox Appeal.
This year, during these difficult economic times, the council is relying on members of the public to support the appeal more than ever, saying it needs people’s kindness, generosity, and joy once again, as the 2013 Christmas Toybox Appeal is launched.
Founded in 2011, Carmarthenshire County Council’s Christmas Toybox Appeal is a local initiative which provides Christmas gifts for families in need, who can’t afford to buy food, gifts, or toys for their children, and may go to loan sharks in desperation.
The Christmas Toybox Appeal has ensured that local children, who might otherwise receive nothing or very little, get a gift at Christmas.
Deputy Leader and Anti-Poverty Champion Cllr Pam Palmer said: “Last year hundreds of families received a Christmas present because of the incredible work of Christmas Toybox Appeal volunteer workers and donors.
“Once again this year, we are urging people to spare a thought for those unfortunate families, and purchase an extra present to donate to this year’s Christmas Toybox Appeal.
“Every gift donated will make a difference for families which Christmas would otherwise be just another day.”
People can donate gifts for all ages; babies from 18 months up to teenagers.
Gifts should be unwrapped, as they will be allocated by a team of volunteers who work alongside the families, although people are being asked to donate gift wrap, scissors and sellotape for the volunteers.

- Carmarthen Customer Services, 3 Spilman Street, Carmarthen, SA31 1LE
- County Hall reception, Carmarthen, SA31 1 JP
- Carmarthen Journal offices, King Street, Carmarthen
- Llanelli, Customer Services, Ty Elwyn, Town Hall Square, SA15 3AP
- Llanelli Star offices, Cowell Street, Llanelli
The cut-off date for donations is December 2.
