Pembrokeshire for Europe met at the Bloomfield Centre, Narberth on 7 February to celebrate the benefits to Pembrokeshire of our EU membership.
Alistair Cameron from Pembrokeshire for Europe said:
“The Common Market was formed over 60 years ago to promote peace in Europe through trade after the two world wars.
“Since joining the Common Market in the 1970s, Pembrokeshire together with the rest of Wales and Britain has benefited through frictionless trade with over 300 million customers in the EU. Our ferries at Fishguard and Pembroke Dock enjoy easy access to Ireland.Also thanks to our membership of the European Union, we benefit from free trade agreements with over 50 countries around the world.
“Alongside this, the EU has helped pay to improve our roads (such as the Heads of the Valleys road and the A40 between Slebech and Penblewin) and our tourist infrastructure (such as in Saundersfoot). EU action has forced us to improve the cleanliness of our rivers and seas and EU workers staff our hospitals, hotels and care homes. EU directives have improved employment rights and tackled unfair discrimination.
“Pembrokeshire for Europe therefore says “Thank EU” Europe. We are campaigning for a People’s Vote to give the British public the final say over whether we wish to leave.”
