THE MONKEY PARADE

Walking!
Round and round, and round again,
Whatever the weather, sun or rain.
Walking!
Up and down Broadway they all went,
The air heady with aftershave and scent.
Walking!
Then next door to Stepney Street.
Plain was the sound of those many feet.
Walking!
Smartly turned out in frock or suit,
The boys all handsome, the girls all cute.
Walking!
Now and then a boy would cross the road,
Straying from the Chivalrous Code.
Walking!
A girl had returned his smile,
So he came to chat awhile.
Walking!
Every Sunday you could witness this charade,
This spectacle of Llanelly’s Monkey Parade!
