A MAN and woman have been prosecuted in court after they were seen throwing litter out from a car parked in KFC in Parc Trostre, Llanelli.
Matthew Thomas Cole and Kayleigh Thomas were issued with fixed penalty notices on June 24 this year by council environmental enforcement officers, but failed to pay them.
Both Cole, aged 20, of Thomas Street, Llanelli, and Thomas, aged 21, of Brynymor, Five Roads, were convicted in absence to the offence contrary to Section 87 of the Environmental Protection Act 1990 at Carmarthen Magistrates Court.
They were each fined £75 and ordered to pay £286.28 prosecution costs and a £20 victim surcharge.
Executive Board Member for Environmental and Public Protection Cllr Jim Jones said he hoped the case would act as a deterrent to others.
Figures show that fast food litter can be found on 20% of county streets.
Cllr Jones added: “The message is clear – use the bins provided or take your rubbish home with you to dispose of. If you don’t, then you could get fined.”
