A LLANELLI man has been fined by magistrates for failing to clean up after his dog.
Kevin Goddard, aged 47, of Great Western Crescent, was issued with a fixed penalty notice by council enviroinmental enforcement officers for the offence, which happened on August 7 in the rear lane between Station Road and Clos Gathen.
However, it came to light Goddard supplied an incorrect address to officers in an attempt to avoid further action. He was eventually traced but still failed to pay the fine.
Goddard was convicted in absence to an offence contrary to Section 3 of The Dogs (Fouling of Land) Act 1996 at Carmarthen Magistrates Court.
He was fined £75 and ordered to pay £286.28 prosecution costs plus a £20 victim surcharge.
Executive Board Member for Environmental and Public Protection Cllr Jim Jones said he hoped the case would act as a warning to irresponsible dog owners.
“The majority of dog owners are responsible and pick up after their pets,” he said. “But there are some that don’t. Not only is dog mess very unpleasant if you step in it, but it can be a serious health risk, particularly for children.”
Council enforcement officers carry out patrols across the county seven days a week.
