Welsh-medium primary school achieves autism awareness award/Ysgol gynradd Gymraeg yn derbyn gwobr ymwybyddiaeth o awtistiaeth

Ysgol Gymraeg Gwaun Cae Gurwen has become the first Welsh-medium primary school in Neath Port Talbot to be achieve the ‘Learning with Autism Primary School Award’.

The school will join 11 English-medium primary schools in Neath Port Talbot whichhave already received the award.

 The award recognises the work schools do to promote a better understanding and awareness of Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD). To achieve the award, schools must take a whole school approach to raising awareness of ASDamongst teachers, learning support staff and pupils. Everyone who undertakes the award receives access to a range of learning resources and training opportunities specifically relating to ASD.

Councillor Peter Rees, Cabinet Member for Education, Skills and Culture, said:

 “I am delighted to announce that YsgolGymraegGwaunCaeGurwenwill added to the list of schools in Neath Port Talbot who have achieved this award.

 “The award is vital to helping everyone in a school setting to develop their knowledge and skills to support children with ASD. As set out in our corporate plan, we want to ensure all children and young people are given the best start in life so they can be the best they can be.”

The ‘Learning with Autism Primary School Award’ is a part of the Welsh Local Government Association’s programme to raise awareness of autism among primary school children in Wales.

Councillor Huw David (Bridgend), WLGA Spokesperson for Health and Social Care said:

“I am very pleased to see schools taking up the free bilingual ‘Learning with Autism’ programme which is intended to raise awareness of autism across whole school settings.

“All schools that have achieved this award have had to demonstrate full commitment to providing learning environments which fully support all pupils’ needs. In addition to the award, the Council’s ASD Advisory Service has delivered specific training to 376 teachers and teaching assistants through a rolling programme of support.

Ysgol Gymraeg Gwaun Cae Gurwen yw’r ysgol Gymraeg gyntaf yng Nghastell-nedd Port Talbot i ennill y ‘Wobr Dysgu gydag Awtistiaeth’ i ysgolion cynradd.

Bydd yr ysgol yn ymuno ag 11 o ysgolion Saesneg yng Nghastell-nedd Port Talbot sydd eisoes wedi derbyn y wobr.

Mae’r wobr yn cydnabod y gwaith y mae ysgolion yn ei wneud i hyrwyddo gwell dealltwriaeth ac ymwybyddiaeth o Anhwylderau’r Sbectrwm Awtistig (ASA). I ennill y wobr hon, mae’n rhaid i ysgolion ddefnyddio ymagwedd ysgol gyfan at gynyddu ymwybyddiaeth o ASA ymhlith athrawon, staff cefnogi dysgu a disgyblion. Mae hyn yn cynnwys cael mynediad at adnoddau dysgu a chyfleoedd hyfforddiant.

Meddai’r Cynghorydd Peter Rees, Aelod y Cabinet dros Addysg, Sgiliau a Diwylliant,

“Mae’n bleser gennyf gyhoeddi bod Ysgol Gymraeg Gwaun Cae Gurwen wedi ennill y wobr hon. Mae’n bwysig bod gan bawb mewn ysgol ddealltwriaeth ac ymwybyddiaeth dda o awtistiaeth.

“Un o’r prif flaenoriaethau a nodir yn ein cynllun corfforaethol yw sicrhau y rhoddir y dechrau gorau mewn bywyd i bob plentyn a pherson ifanc.”

Mae Gwasanaeth Ymgynghorol ASA y cyngor wedi hyfforddi 376 o athrawon a chynorthwywyr addysgu drwy raglen dreigl o gefnogaeth i sicrhau y datblygir yr ymagwedd hon fel model cynaliadwy i bob ysgol.

Meddai’r Cynghorydd Huw David (Pen-y-bont ar Ogwr), llefarydd CLlLC ar ran Iechyd a Gofal Cymdeithasol:

“Rwy’n falch iawn o weld ysgolion yn manteisio ar y rhaglen ‘Dysgu gydag Awtistiaeth’ ddwyieithog am ddimsy’nceisiocynydduymwybyddiaeth o awtistiaethymmhobysgol.

“Roedd rhaid i bob ysgol a gyflawnodd y wobr hon ddangos ymrwymiad llwyr i ddarparu amgylcheddau dysgu sy’n cefnogi anghenion pob disgybl yn llawn. Rwyf wrth fy modd bod Ysgol Gymraeg Gwaencaegurwenwediymuno â rhestrgynyddol o ysgolioncynradd ac uwchraddsyddwedicwblhau’rrhaglen ‘DysgugydagAwtistiaeth’ ynllwyddiannusermwyncynydduymwybyddiaeth a gwelladealltwriaeth o angheniondisgyblion ag awtistiaeth.”

Mae’r ‘Wobr Dysgu gydag Awtistiaeth’ i ysgolion cynradd yn rhan o raglen Cymdeithas Llywodraeth Leol Cymru i gynyddu ymwybyddiaeth o awtistiaeth ymhlith plant ysgolion cynradd yng Nghymru.
