PEOPLE with borrowed health equipment they no longer need, including crutches and zimmer frames, are being urged to hand them back in.

The Carmarthenshire Integrated Community Equipment Service, a joint venture by Carmarthenshire County Council and Hywel Dda Health Board, provides equipment to help people live as independently as possible in their own home.

Equipment can vary from shower stools and chair raisers to profiling beds and pressure care mattresses.

All of the equipment is designed so that it can be reused again and again, but many pieces of equipment are not returned.

Now, people are being asked to hand back anything they no longer need, so that it can be cleaned, serviced, and leant to someone who needs it.

Manager for the Dafen-based equipment service, Paul Faulkner, said: “Once a piece of equipment is received back here in our warehouse, it is cleaned and fully serviced, ready for re-use.

“The more equipment we can get back from patients who no longer need them, the more efficient this service can become, and we can get more equipment out into the community for use by adults and children.”

Anyone who would like to return a piece of equipment can call 01554 744359 to arrange collection.

Alternatively, unused equipment can be dropped off at the Equipment Service warehouse at Unit 2, Heol Aur, Dafen Ind Est, Llanelli, SA14 8QN.
