NEW PARTNERSHIP TO RUN LLANELLI TOWN COUNCIL
A new partnership has been formed to provide non-political leadership for Llanelli Town Council.
Councillors Shahana Najmi, Jeff Edmunds, Sara Griffiths, Lauren Edmunds, Louvain Roberts, Chris Griffiths and Matthew Edmunds have all left the Labour Party and will sit as independent Llanelli Town Councillors.
Councillor Shahana Najmi will continue in her current role as Leader of Llanelli Town Council as she has the support and confidence of the majority of her fellow Town Councillors.
Cllr. Najmi, Councillor for the Lliedi ward said: “I was elected to serve my ward and subsequently elected as Leader of Llanelli Town Council to serve the wider Town. I feel I can no longer carry out my duties from within The Labour Party due to internal party political interests clouding decision-making.”
Shahana added: “As an independent non-political leader of the Town Council we can ensure that nothing gets in the way of putting Llanelli first and I’m honoured to have the support of the majority of my colleagues to continue as Leader.”
Cllr. John Jenkins, who represents the Town’s Elli ward, becomes the new Deputy Leader of Llanelli Town Council.
He said: “Llanelli Town Council will be run for what is in the best interests of Llanelli and not for the benefit of any one political party. The new administration will promote consensus and working for the best of the Town.”
