PEOPLE in Carmarthenshire are being asked for their views on the Council Tax Reduction scheme.

It replaced Council Tax Benefit last April, and is a Wales-wide scheme introduced by the Welsh Government.

The county council now wants to hear people’s views on the authority’s approach to the scheme.

The council has a small number of limited discretions, it cannot change the non-discretionary elements.

The Council Tax Reduction scheme helps many low income households to meet the cost of their council tax bills, in the same way as Council Tax Benefit did previously.

If a claimant qualifies for help they will receive a contribution towards their Council Tax bill which is credited directly to their Council Tax account, reducing the amount payable.

Carmarthenshire County Council has around 19,000 households receiving CTR, of which almost 14,000 receive a full reduction and do not have to pay any Council Tax.

Consultation has now been launched and will run until December 24. More information is available on the council website at www.carmarthenshire.gov.uk at customer service centres, and at libraries or email Revenue.Controls@Carmarthenshire.gov.uk.
