Michelle goes behind the scenes with mounted police from both Gloucestershire and Avon and Somerset forces to see how they prepare for such a major event.

Maureen Whale manslaughter appeal

On this morning’s Crimewatch Roadshow Live programme (BBC One 9.15am) the Metropolitan police will make a new appeal for information about a burglary which led to the death of 77 year old Maureen Whale from Barnet in North London.

On 4th December 2018 three burglars broke into Maureen’s home and stole her handbag and jewellery. During her 999 call to the police Maureen collapsed. A short time later she died from a heart attack.

Today Maureen’s heart-breaking phone call will be broadcast for the first time in the hope that viewers will call in with new information to help officers solve the case.

Maureen’s niece Gina Owen said, “She was a proud woman. For her life to end as a result of somebody breaking and entering is the absolute worst. You always hope your relative, when the time comes, that they’re going to have a dignified death. This isn’t the way it should have happened.”

Police are treating Maureen’s death as manslaughter and this morning will appeal to viewers to identify the burglars seen on CCTV outside her home.

Ticket Fraud

Last year more than six thousand people in the UK were scammed into buying fake tickets for concerts. This morning Crimewatch Roadshow Live (BBC One 9.15am) looks into this growing problem and speaks to a music fan who was duped online by a man who claimed to be selling genuine tickets to see her favourite band.  The programme also reveals the identity of a suspect wanted for numerous ticket fraud offences.
