Dyfed Powys Police is to change the way support services are organised to improve support for frontline policing.
The Public First Programme will reshape the force structure to become more efficient. Dyfed-Powys Police has to reduce its costs by £11.5 million by 2017, which is equivalent to 12% of its total budget. Whilst this is not the primary driver for the change, more efficient processes will reduce costs and enable the Force to focus its resources on policing communities.
The proposals which are currently being consulted upon would see a reduction in 118 staff posts. However, the force has taken steps to minimise any potential redundancies, and whilst 55 redundancies could be possible it is hoped that the final number will be less.
Chief Constable Simon Price said:
“Dyfed-Powys Police is staffed by dedicated people who are committed to our communities, and I am determined that this should remain the case. The changes we are proposing are designed to enable us to give the best possible service to the public.”
