Futsal craze kicks of Emlyn League

THERE’S a chance to try and become part of the fast growing craze of Futsal (hall football) at Newcastle Emlyn Leisure Centre on Sunday. (Jan 26th 2-4pm)

Carmarthenshire council’s sports development teams have organised an exhibition match between Wrexham, and Ammanford during the event.

We have now had confirmation that two of Wales’ top Futsal teams will be playing an exhibition match during the event; Wrexham and Ammanford Futsal Clubs.

Wrexham, the current FAW Futsal Cup Champions defeated Ammanford Futsal in the semi-final of the 2013 Welsh Cup competition so this exhibition match kicking off at 2.15pm will be an opportunity to atone.

Clubs and individuals in Carmarthenshire and surrounding areas are being invited to attend to watch the match which will be followed by an opportunity to take part in some Futsal exercises as well as some friendly games.

This is all part of a launch of the brand new Futsal Emlyn league which kicks off during February on Friday evenings at Emlyn Leisure Centre, Newcastle Emlyn.

County sports development officer Matthew Adams said: “There was a lot of interest and he was confident the Futsal Emlyn league would flourish from teams created following the event.”

• Fulsal, played between two teams of five players, was developed in Brazil and Uruguay in the 1930s and 1940s .
• In Brazil futsal is played by more people than football but does not attract as many spectators as the outdoor sport.
• Several futsal players have moved on to careers as successful professional football players.
• The surface, smaller ball and rules create an emphasis on improvisation, creativity and technique as well as ball control and passing in small spaces.
