An agreement between Wales and West Utilitiesand Neath Port Talbot Council will see the provision of a free shuttle bus serviceduring a road closure along Llantwit Road, Neath
To enable the replacement of gas mains lying underneath, it will be necessary to close Llantwit Road to vehicles,in both directions, between the junctions of Pen y Dre and Digby Road.
The works, which begin on Monday 15th April, are expected to take around three weeks to complete, and the road closure will be in place for the duration of the works.
The First Cymru X7 bus service will not operate between Tonna Hospital and Llantwit during this time. However, following negotiations, a replacement shuttle bus service will be provided by Wales and West Utilities for the duration of the closure.
The shuttleservice will start from the junction of Fairyland Rd at Llantwit Cemetery, stopping at all designated bus stops up to Tonna Hospital, with no fares taken for travel on this vehicle.
Passengers who wish to travel onward towards Neath or Glynneath can then catch the First Cymru X7 service, which will be subject to the usual fares.
The shuttleservice vehicle will meet all returning passengers on the X7 at Tonna Hospital and transport back down to Llantwit Cemetery.
A timetable has been produced for the shuttle service and will be displayed at all bus stops along the affected area between Llantwit Cemetery and Tonna.
Thereplacement shuttle service will not be operating on Sundays or Bank Holiday Monday.
Cllr Ted Latham, Cabinet Member for Streetscene and Engineering said: “The Council recognises that road closures can be disruptive and will always aim to minimise their impact as much as possible. We are therefore glad that in this instance Wales and West Utilities have agreed to provide a replacement shuttle bus service whilst they undertake essential works at Llantwit Road.”
