On Saturday the 25th Of January 2014, twenty one Sosban Riders entered round 1 of Towy Riders Go ride MTB race series held at Pembrey Country Parc.

Races were held for ages from U8’s to U16’s with novice adults allowed to race also in the U’16 category. The excellent course was a mix of grass and field and single forest track, which incorporated a few tricky and technical ascents and decents .Backing onto the main cafe in Pembrey,it was a very good venue with good facilities all round, for those wanting a coffee/tea and a biscuit, good parking with a tap to wash your bike off afterwards.

First race off were the U8’s and all Sosban Riders put in a good ride on the challenging course. Due to the heavy rain in the week before the event, some sections of the course were underwater. However that didn’t deter our gritty little riders, and everyone rode really well over the three laps to the finsih.

Next up were the U10’s who raced over a slightly extended course, this time there was four laps. The first time for the spectators to see how the racers would deal with the downhill section, which ran alongside a rather wet section! There were a few with wet feet at the end!

There were the U14’s ,16’s and seniors last (but not least) was my race, the U’12s. The positions would be decided over five laps this time. It was really enjoyable as it was wet and muddy in parts really testing.

After the races there was a opportunity to do a time trial on the U’8s course, with times being recorded to be bettered in the fourth coming rounds. However, due to the weather closing in many had decided to head off for home and a well deserved cup of tea ! Well done everyone, see you on the next one !!!
