SEVERE high winds are causing problems across the county.
Highways crews have been dealing with a number of incidents of fallen trees and loose roof tiles, with a number of road closures in place as a result.
Incidents are dealt with on a priority basis, and depending on weather conditions, some closures may remain until tomorrow morning.
The high winds are expected to ease after 6pm tonight; however, extra crews will be on standby throughout the night in case of any further problems.
Some schools in the county were closed this afternoon for health and safety reasons; Pembrey and Llyn Llech Owain country parks were also closed due to the potential risk of falling trees.
Abergwili Museum, Parc Howard Museum, Llanelli Leisure Centre and Aman Valley Leisure Centre Swimming Pool have closed this afternoon.
Pont King Morgan Bridge in Carmarthen has also been temporarily closed to pedestrians for safety reasons.
A number of day centre users were taken home earlier than usual due to the deteriorating weather conditions.
The council’s building services team are on call tonight in case of any structural damage to council buildings such as care homes and schools; again works will be carried out according to priority. Street lighting engineers will also be on standby.
Residents are being advised not to travel unless absolutely necessary this afternoon.
