NEW traffic regulation orders are to be introduced to enforce the yellow zig zag lines outside Llanelli’s Coedcae School.

Several parents have contacted the school and the county council concerned that drivers are parking on the zig zags at the beginning and end of the school day.

The lines are there to advise drivers that it is not safe to park in that area, as they may compromise the safety of children.

Carmarthenshire County Council traffic officers have liaised with the school and the local neighbourhood policing team, and have visited the area to advise drivers, but the issue has not improved.

The council’s traffic management unit is now introducing a Traffic Regulation Order to enable Civil Enforcement Officers to ticket those who refuse to park safely.

The move has been welcomed by the school.

John McEvoy, Traffic Management and Parking Services Manager, said: “Yellow zig zag lines advise drivers that it is an unsafe place to park when children are entering or leaving the school gates. Despite our observations and advice, it seems some drivers are determined to park in this area. As such, we will be commencing the process to introduce a Traffic Regulation Order which will give us the power to issue fines to those that continue to ignore the keep clear markings.

“Our priority is the safety of children.”
