SCHOOL children across Carmarthenshire will be celebrating St David’s Day by tucking in to a traditional Welsh meal.
To commemorate the Patron Saint of Wales, a delicious menu of homemade beef cawl and bread roll with cheese will be served to over 19,000 schoolchildren on Wednesday, March 5.
This will be followed by the traditional favourites Teisen Lap and custard or Welshcake with fresh fruit also being available.
Catering Services Manager Sandra Weigel said: “If your child isn’t currently having school lunch, why not give it a try? It can be easier than preparing a lunchbox, and usually more healthy and balanced which is so important for active children. There are thousands of children already enjoying a delicious healthy school meal every day.”
Carmarthenshire County Council’s catering department use a sophisticated software programme to help ensuring that the menu they develop is nutritionally balanced. They consult with the NHS Paediatric Dieticians to ensure special diets are catered for.
Executive Board Member for Children’s Services, Cllr Keith Davies, said: “It’ll be great to see children enjoying a nutritious bowl of cawl as part of the St David’s Day celebrations.”
