Colleagues at Aberystwyth’s Tesco store have been helping to turn the town pink in support of Cancer Research UK’s Race for Life which kicks off this weekend.
The store recently participated in the nationwide ‘Tesco Turns Pink’ weekend which saw thousands of Tesco colleagues unite across the UK to raise vital funds to help beat cancer.
Tesco colleagues at the Aberystwyth store embarked on a variety of fundraising activities in-store and throughout the local community, giving visitors the opportunity to find out more about how to join their local Race for Life events.
James Cordell, Community Champion, at the Aberystwyth store said: “Our ‘Aber Turns Pink’ weekend was a great success and it was fantastic to see colleagues and customers alike support Tesco’s partnership with Cancer Research UK’s Race for Life. It was a great opportunity to come together to raise vital funds for the charity.
“The local community have really got behind the project and we can’t wait for the race this weekend! Businesses across the town have been busy creating pink window displays in time for the race and community members have helped us put pink bows of support out around town.”
The Race for Life events in Aberystwyth include the 5k and 10k and take place at 11am on Sunday 12 May at The Bandstand, Marine Terrace, The Promenade, Ceredigion, Aberystwyth, SY23 2BX.
James added: “At this weekend’s Race for Life events we have a team of 50 made up of colleagues, friends and family either taking part in the race or supporting events staff with marshalling, distributing water and helping at the bag drop tents on site. We’ve had plenty of requests from local people volunteering their services – it’s great to see the local community come together and supporting each another.”
Tesco has been the proud partner of Cancer Research UK’s Race for Life for 18 years.
Cancer Research UK’s Race for Life, in partnership with Tesco, is an inspiring series of 5k, 10k, Pretty Muddy and Pretty Muddy Kids events which raise millions of pounds every year to help beat cancer by funding crucial research.
This year, for the first time, Cancer Research UK is inviting everyone – women, men and children – to join the Race for Life events.
Sarah Pickersgill, Head of Events Marketing for Cancer Research UK, said: “We are very grateful for the support of the Tesco team in Aberystwyth and we wish them every success for their Race for Life weekend. By joining the Race for Life, everyone can make a real difference to people with cancer, right now.
“Race for Life events are fun, colourful and uplifting. Taking part in the events enables like-minded people to get together and remember loved ones lost to cancer or celebrate the lives of those who have survived.”
Thanks to everyone who raises money, Cancer Research UK is able to support research to fight 200 types of cancer. The good news is more people are surviving the disease than ever before. Cancer survival in the UK has double since the early 1970s and Cancer Research UK’s work has been at the heart of that progress.
