Families in Pembrokeshire are benefiting from Welsh Labour’s pledge to extend the childcare offer for 3 and 4 year olds.
A key part of Welsh Labour’s 2016 manifesto commitment is now being delivered in Carmarthenshire and Pembrokeshire following a successful pilot in Ceredigion and Powys.
The pioneering scheme provides 30 hours of Welsh Government-funded early education and childcare to working parents of 3 and 4 year olds for 48 weeks of the year. It consists of a combination of the existing Foundation Phase Nursery provision open and additional funded childcare for eligible families.
Eluned said: “The Childcare Offer is currently being rolled-out across Wales, and I was delighted to meet with parents at Saundersfoot Playgroup who have been some of the first families in Pembrokeshire to benefit directly from our pledge. From the pilot phases, we know that this innovative childcare offer is already making a difference, reducing the strain on family income and helping ensure childcare is not a barrier to mams and dads taking up employment or increasing their hours.”
According to Welsh Government, the scheme will be available across the country by next year with more than 5,000 eligible children already part of the offer.
