Council tax in Carmarthenshire to increase by 4.77%

COUNCIL tax in Carmarthenshire is to increase by 4.77% from April councillors decided today.

It means that a Band D property will be £1,026.48 for the County Council part of the payment.

Council tax is made up of three parts –County Council, Town/Community Council and Dyfed Powys Police and Crime Commissioner charges.

Bills show how much of the charge is due to each of the three parties.

The total amount varies, as although the County Council and police charges are the same for all households, town or community council charges differ for each area.

A full list of charges is published on the council website at www.carmarthenshire.gov.uk along with a council tax calculator people can use to work out exactly how much they need to pay.

Council Leader Cllr Kevin Madge said: “We made significant changes as a result of the extensive public consultation, and I would like to thank once again all those who took part.

“The changes did impact on our council tax which will now increase by 4.77%, we appreciate it is not as low as people would want, but I think we have achieved a balance between protecting services, investment in our future and the impact on council taxpayers. “

The full Council Tax bill assumes that there are a minimum of two adults counted as living in the dwelling.

If only one adult is counted as living in a dwelling as their main home the Council Tax bill is reduced by a quarter.

For a dwelling which is no-one’s main place of residence and which is unfurnished, the bill will be reduced by half and in certain circumstances, may be exempt from paying any Council Tax.
