Council tenants are being offered free home fire safety checks in a joint initiative between Housing and Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service.
The checks will help tenants identify fire hazards within their homes; what they should do in the event of a fire, and the steps they can take to improve their home safety, including the maintenance and regular testing of smoke and carbon monoxide detectors. The Fire Service is also providing Housing staff with fire safety training so that they can advise tenants during routine visits.
Adele Lodwig, Assistant Area Housing Manager, said: “Improving the safety of tenants in their homes is a key priority for us, and something we continue to develop as part of our community safety, tenant engagement and Carmarthenshire Homes Standard programmes.”
Station Manager John Jones, Community Fire Safety, said: “Anyone can request a home check and we aim to give advice to keep you safe in your home.”
If you would like to request a free home fire safety check call 0800 169 1234 or email cfscarmarthenshire@mawwfire.gov.uk
Council tenants will receive further information about the visits as part of their rent statement pack, which is being delivered to all council homes this month. Tenants are encouraged to speak to their housing officer if they need further advice, or call 01267 234567.
